Orthognathic-Jaw Surgery

Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic-jaw surgery is a corrective procedure that straightens and repositions a misaligned jaw. Orthodontics is used to properly align jaws that don’t meet correctly and/or teeth that don’t seem to fit with jaws. This improves facial appearance and ensures that teeth meet correctly and function properly.

Who Needs Orthognathic Surgery?

Candidates for orthognathic surgery include individuals with an improper bite or jaws that are positioned incorrectly. Upper and lower jaws may grow at different rates, resulting in problems that can affect chewing function, speech, long-term oral health, and appearance. Injury to the jaw and birth effects can also affect jaw alignment. Orthodontics is usually used to correct bite problems involving teeth, while orthognathic surgery is used to reposition the jaw.
